We are seeking a Design Technician C NERC to join the staff at our Washington, DC location. In this role, you will under the direct supervision of a design engineer, design supervisor, lead design technician or other higher classified design technician, prepares a variety of drawings including electrical arrangements, control schematics diagrams, connection, one-lines, wiring diagrams and drawings required for the design and construction of new or major modifications to existing substations and switchyards. Prepare construction drawings, control circuitry drawings, arrangement drawings, design details and assembles bills of material. Assures that all concepts and project details are accurately reflected in the drawings that he/she produces.

Experience demonstrating skill reading and interpreting engineering and construction plans and drawings.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based drafting software (for example, MicroStation, AutoCAD, ESRI).
Experience demonstrating skill performing basic mathematical computations to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, PDF conversion and email software.
Ability and willingness to communicate clearly with other employees, face to face and over the telephone.
Ability and willingness to read and comprehend Company material and complete written reports accurately.
Ability to differentiate color coded drawings and plans.
Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice and on-call during storms and system emergencies.
Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, local, and PHI regulations.
Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces and in noisy and dirty environments.
Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, twisting, kneeling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking and squatting).
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass qualification test.
Must successfully pass the Criminal History Records Check.
Must successfully pass a medical screening to include a drug test.
This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
Preferred:
Associate's degree in Design, Applied Science, Engineering Technology or related field OR the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Knowledge of electric utility system and/or electrical configuration.
Experience demonstrating skill creating field sketches of proposed layouts to include: - gathering field measurements and data using various methods including electronic field data collection methods and tools; and/or - analyzing field data.
Experience demonstrating skill preparing, designing and/or modifying drawings for substations and switchyards (for example, electrical arrangements, control schematics, connection diagrams, one-lines, wiring diagrams).
Experience demonstrating skill sizing cable, checking clearances, assembling bills of material and/or ensuring drawings are properly scaled.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based records/document management systems (for example, WMIS, IBM DB2).
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based records/document management systems (for example, e-Change, IBM DB2, Fusion).
