| | | | Job Description | Position Purpose
Working under general supervision, the GIS Technician maintains, displays and updates a comprehensive geographic information system. Duties may include design, complex technical review and development of GIS projects. This position works with individual map layers, coverages and linkages, base map design and database design and development.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Operates GIS workstation and utilize various software and hardware to update maps from new data. Produce special graphic layouts. Research and interpret source records and documents. Examine various source materials to enter data into digital format. Conducts mapping research to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of the data. Develops reports against a variety of data sources. Attends training and upgrades knowledge of related technologies. Respond to requests for GIS information from various sources. Determine effective presentation of information and select appropriate cartographic elements to produce maps/drawings. Review, monitor and verify GIS digital files and related databases. May make field inspections to check on completed work. Knowledge of GIS concepts to formulate and prepare drawings, maps and plans Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, basic symbols and terminology for mapping; basic database principles; ESRI GIS applications such as ArcCatalog, ArcGIS, ArcMap and ArcView Ability; Microsoft Office Preofessional, and microcomputers, related equipment and various software in a Windows networking environment. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to make oral and written presentations Ability to perform difficult computer aided drafting of maps, plats, sketches, plans, graphs, charts, and other related materials. Ability to make independent actions or decisions on technical issues. Skill in determining and implementing best methods for making products; gathering, compiling and presenting information in a cartographic and tabular format; developing and implementing GIS projects.

Requirement-Education & Experience
Two (2) years experience in GIS technical operating experience using GIS software and tools to convert and maintain geo-spatial information, produce standard and custom GIS mapping products, and develop simple GIS tools and extensions. Associate’s degree or equivalent course work at a technical or vocational school in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science or a related field, or two years experience working with geographic information systems. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. Possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
