GPS Field Technician

Job Description
CAREA (Central Alberta Rural Electrification Association) is a member owned rural power provider. This position is a one year term position and is located in our Onoway, AB office. Reporting directly to GIS Technologist, the GPS Field Technician will be responsible to collect the data relating to CAREA power poles in rural.

Responsibilities of the GPS Field Technician will include, but will not be limited to the following:

•Organize and plan daily routes for data collection.
•Conduct GPS data collection in specified area
•Entering off all data relating to the facilities at CAREA into the GPS.
•On a regular basis conduct quality assurance and quality control on the data to ensure accuracy and reliability
•Identify hazards around power poles, where necessary
•Perform data analysis as it relates to the project.
 
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with mapping and GPS along with clear concepts of data collection techniques. The person should be detail oriented and should have some knowledge/experience using GPS. The ideal candidate should be flexible and have ability to learn quickly and enjoy working outdoors. He/She will also possess the following:
•Technical degree in GIS/GPS or combination of similar experience with GIS/GPS required.
•Valid Class 5 Drivers License and clean drivers abstract.
•Knowledge or experience with ESRI ArcPad is desired.
•Familiarity with QA/QC desired.
•Some Experience in data collection, analysis and organization of data.
•Strong computer skills and knowledge of windows mobile based devices
•Strong communication and writing skills required.
•Some understanding of electrical concepts desired but not required
•Flexible and adaptable to field conditions
•Proven ability to communicate effectively within the organization. Also, the ability to diplomatically and professionally communicate with customers/members is essential.
