HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 ½ hours)

SUMMARY:
Maintains and is accountable for the computer generation of maps, reports and data in an organized format (catalogued and indexed).
Coordinates the development of integrated geographical information system (GIS) databases for spatial, non-spatial and cartographical data. Maintains up to date knowledge of GIS systems and trends. Assists in development of training of such systems, and recommends and implements procedures to increase data accessibility and ease of use.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
° Maintains and administers the GIS database including the acquisition of data, development, modification, compliance and enhancement of the GIS system. This includes analysis, integration, systems testing, implementation, documentation and system backups.
° Acts as a liaison between GIS users, systems developers and consultants in the development, testing, implementation and review of systems, both existing and proposed.
° Assists in training of users of GIS system.
° Maintains up to date knowledge of system, and recommends enhancements.
° Writes and develops specifications for the GIS database and application systems.
° Troubleshoots problems and is accountable for the day-to-day database and technical support.
° Assists in the implementation of GIS database application on a PC based network.
° Conducts analysis on existing GIS database systems and performs updates or modifications as required. | | | | | Job Requirements | DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
° Must be PC literate.
° General experience of working in an office environment.
° Ability to travel throughout the MTA service area to visit various MTA Police sites.
° Ability to work with sensitive data and at times confidential information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
° BA or BS (or equivalent) with strong computer course background, plus a minimum of three to five years using ERSI Mapping products including ArcGIS Server (Version 8 or above), ArcIMS & ArcSDE. .AutoCAD and Microstation experience is a plus.
