Job Description
Avencia develops innovative, web-based software that uses mapping technologies and geography to solve complex, interesting, and novel problems. We serve a broad range of clients including governments, non-profit organizations, universities, and businesses. We have particular expertise in natural resource planning, economic development, crime analysis, real estate property analysis, and cultural resources, but are engaged in a wide range of other interesting projects. Job Description:

We see this position as a great first step for an individual who is looking for an opportunity to learn more about GIS applications, web programming, APIs, and would like to develop their software development skills. The scope of the position is to systematically test our software solutions and to develop, apply and maintain quality standards for company applications. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Software Development Team Participation – Collaborate with developers and product development teams to create responsive and compelling user interactions; Keep track of new requirements; Participate in software design reviews

Test Research, Planning, and Execution – Develop and execute software test plans and cases; Run and maintain test automation scripts for regression testing, Analyze and write test standards, procedures and reports; Maintain and monitor continuous integration server

Issue Reporting and Follow-Up - Analyze test results to ensure existing functionality and recommend corrective action, Track problem reports using issue tracking software (FogBugz); Maintain documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software; Identify, report, and document software bugs and operational characteristics that are inconsistent with stated requirements and design specifications, and resolve issues with software developers

Required Technical Expertise:
• Experience with procedural scripting languages such as VBscript, Javascript, Python.
• Experience with web technologies such as HTML, Javascript and CSS.
• Experience in SQL development, testing and troubleshooting
• Experience with database management tools

Desired Skills:
• BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux operating systems
• Some programming experience in the .Net framework or Java
• Ability to assess the priority and severity of issues
• Careful attention to detail
• Strong analytical, logical and problem-solving skills
• Good sense of humor
