Avencia develops innovative, web-based software that uses mapping technologies and geography to solve complex, interesting, and novel problems. We serve a broad range of clients including governments, non-profit organizations, universities, and businesses. We have particular expertise in natural resource planning, economic development, crime analysis, real estate property analysis, and cultural resources, but are engaged in a wide range of other interesting projects. We believe we can make a difference through geographic information technologies and each of our client projects, products and pro bono engagements showcases this commitment.
What do we mean by a ‘Project Manager’? We are looking for a person that combines a mix of talents, skills, and common sense, but not necessarily someone with PMP certification. While we have a fairly open-ended definition for this position and realize that many types of individuals could fit it, we are looking for someone with attention to detail and excellent communication, writing and networking skills as well as a strong technical background. Ideally, this person also has the energy and drive to inspire co-workers to attain goals on time and under budget, and pursue excellence. Depending on your skills, interests and background, your duties may include:
Project and Product Development
* Manage the development, identity, and marketing of software solutions and products.
* Develop budgets and cost proposals.
* Work with members of management team to prioritize features and manage project budget.
* Communicate relevant project information with management team.
* Suggest areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.
* Identify and pursue business development and "add-on" sales opportunities as they relate to a specific project.
* Possess general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design and geospatial analysis such that you are able to write and speak about these topics for both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Contribute to writing and assembly of technical proposals and research-oriented grant proposals.
* Work with CEO and business development staff to develop business plans and company strategy.
Software Team Management
* Fulfill the role of Product Owner or ScrumMaster in Scrum process.
* Identify and mitigate team conflict and communication problems.
* Remove impediments to teams operating productively.
* Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope: Work with software developers, business development staff and clients to keep projects on time and ensure high quality deliverables.
* Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions.
* Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
Other Desired Skills
* At least 3 years of proven Project Management responsibilities with software teams.
* Some background with GIS technology.
