Position: GIS Coordinator
Starting Salary: $48,900 + benefits

Definition:
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator is responsible for: development, maintenance and dissemination of the City’s GIS database; administration of the hardware, software, network and other equipment related to the GIS; coordination of City-related GIS projects among departments; designing, developing, writing, implementing, and maintaining a centralized geographic information system that accommodates use by all departments; identifying, documents, and analyzing work processes for the purpose of automating tasks using GIS technology.

Job Requirements
Examples of Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: geography, geology, GIS, or related field; the principles, methods and techniques of geographic information systems; programming skills using ArcGIS or equivalent products, programs and languages, Visual Basic, database query and other programs/tools used by the City; current trends and principles, techniques, and standards for base mapping, cadastral mapping, GIS technologies, assessment (valuation), and permitting; of spatial analysis, data generation, and mapping. Skill to/with: communicate technical concepts to internal and external customers, facilitate small group processes, and conduct training. Ability to follow instruction as required and identify and solve problems; Ability to: work with varying amounts of sitting, standing and walking, bending and stooping for short periods of time and lifting of up to 50 lbs; work in confined spaces and climb ladders; work in a time sensitive environment.
Education and Training:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering or Information Systems and five years of progressive experience in programming, digitizing, and drafting maps using GIS applications. Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
