Job Description
The Fresno Fire Department, rich in history and tradition, continues to uphold its standards and provide first-rate services to the citizens in Fresno. FFD is recognized as a standard of excellence in the fire service, known for its innovative and progressive approach to alternate methods of providing fire protection.

The department is currently seeking a talented individual to join our team, embrace our organization's commitment to excellence, and enhance community risk reduction efforts by performing a variety of statistical analysis pertaining to past and current patterns and trends in fire and life safety events. The City of Fresno is searching for a person who possesses an aptitude for statistics and data analysis, ideally with computer program experience, to work within the Fresno Fire Department as a Fire Data Analyst. Reporting to the Fire Deputy Chief, the incumbent will perform spatial, geographic, tactical, and procedural analysis of clusters, trends, and patterns of fire activity to provide data for annual reports for illustration of the Fresno Fire Department's workload . Fire Data Analysts may prepare graphic representations of detailed and complex statistical findings, and interpret and explain findings. In addition, the incumbent will review reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward fulfillment of the Fresno Fire Department's mission and goal of excellence in fire and emergency medical service delivery.

The selected candidate will be expected to use sound judgment, encompass a high level of commitment to public service, demonstrate the ability to work well with diverse groups and other public safety personnel, and possess the initiative to complete projects. This is an unclassified position in which incumbent serves at the will of the Fire Chief.

May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Job Requirements
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify.

TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have:

- Two years of statistical data analysis and analytical experience. GIS (Geographic Information Systems), SAS (Statistical Analysis System) or general programming experience preferred;


- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics/statistics, GIS programming or related field.

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

The following describes the knowledge, skill, experience and attributes the ideal candidate for this position will possess:

- Experience performing statistical analysis related to trends and patterns;

- Experience conducting complex statistical and analytical studies, which included collecting and analyzing data, developing and testing hypotheses, and preparing sound conclusions;

- Knowledge of GIS, SAS or general programming;

- Thorough knowledge of statistical theories and concepts; analytical methods and their application;

- Knowledge of statistical models used to predict activity;

- Ability to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports, records and other written documents;

- Possess a strong background analyzing, interpreting and explaining statistical and analysis results;

- Possess effective communication skills and the ability to work with various groups; and

- Highly experienced with computers and various software applications, including generating reports, maps, charts, graphs, and other visual or electronic aids.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment.

Selected incumbent will be required to successfully complete an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.
