GIS Administrator role is as the spatial data manager and GIS knowledge base. Duties were varied, but essential roles were to develop data and tools for project needs, review/test software applications, develop web applications for internal and external client needs and train and manage all GIS related personnel and projects. ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE Administrator who developed ArcGIS Server/ArcSDE pilot projects inception to implementation for engineering goals via a Proof of Concept for company long-term plans, which included Software and Hardware Purchase, Installation, Data and Software Architecture design, Internet implementation, Security and Management of services and websites. As the GIS and ArcServer Administrator, created concept for web applications and eventually for web sites per project use with integrated security implemented. Later, after implementation of GIS tools, developed strategies for GIS data usage in both GIS and CAD environment for work product via an internal White Paper. The paper was used to illustrate data practices in daily workflow versus options integrating GIS data and server technologies, thereby centralizing data control and access as well as providing a central data storage location for all supported spatial technologies and planning for future growth and expansion. Additional duties include: Maintain internal GIS web applications for research on various engineering applications and researched multiple methods of disseminating data and tools. Develop web applications requiring multi-user editable databases as designed and managed through ArcSDE on SQL Server. Manage GIS data files, data collection policies and use, expand GIS tools with testing and research, thereby providing data and services as consumed by both GIS and CAD users. Also tasked with training and monitoring with quality assurance processes for GIS production environments by both GIS and non-GIS users. Develop client based applications and services for GIS products using ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Explorer. Generally problem solved for applying Geographic Information Science to engineering project work flow and was often involved in preparing Marketing Proposals, RFP’s, RFQ’s, SOW’s and technical documentation.
