| Ryerson University | Toronto, ON Canada | Degree: Advanced Applied Digital Geography and GIS Dates: September 2006- May 2008 | | Sir Sandford Fleming College | Lindsay, ON Canada | Degree: Cartographic Technician Dates: January 1998 - December 2000 |
| | | | Professional Experience |
| GIS Technician | Teranet Inc. | | May 2003 - March 2009 | 655 Bay St., Toronto, ON, Canada | • In Oracle Spatial RDMS using Geomedia
software platform I would complete requests
for creation and maintenance of the
assessment land information for our clients,
MPAC & MNR, by the contractually obligated
deadline (less than 45 day total turnaround)
• Daily contact with our clients for
requests for clarifications and also to ensure
work was completed on time and to their
specifications
• I used spatial analyses to help maintain
our parcel fabric’s data integrity
• Heads-up map element correction using,
coordinate registered, Orthophotograph overlay
• Part of Teranet’s GIS platform conversion
team, Microstation to GeoMedia, including the
pilot testing group, creating elements of the
training program and post conversion problem
solving workgroup
• Created Q.C. processes to be used “on
the go” for my group’s own evaluation
• During my 6 years with the O.P. group I
was consistently the top performing individual
in quantity and quality of work in my
department | | Project Leader/ GIS Application Specialist | AGSI | | November 2001 - April 2003 | 13029 Steeles Ave., Halton Hills, ON Canada | In the first phase of the project my
responsibilities were:
• Using ArcGIS I created seamless road
networks and coincident Electoral District
boundaries for all of Ontario
• To design & create new mapping
products to facilitate the election process
using ownership parcel geometry with exact
addressing attributes (Electoral District &
Polling Station maps, List of Electors and
product user manuals)
During the second phase of the project I was
promoted to Project Leader and my
responsibilities were:
• Manage group workload and trouble
shoot any difficulties incurred by onsite team
members
• Batch plotting of every Electoral District
map in Ontario and every Polling Station map
.pdf
• Report on completion status of project
deliverables
• Incorporate clients changing needs
• Lead presentations and training for all
Returning Officers and related staff on how to
use mapping products and data collection
methods
In the final phase of project we wrote and
implemented a set of standard map
specifications for all Elections Ontario and
Elections Canada mapping products to be
created in future.
| | GIS Operator | PLANTEC Inc. | | December 2000 - November 2001 | 200 Town Centre Blvd., Markham, ON, Canada | I fulfilled a contract for Bell Canada’s,
Scarborough office, at the Municipal Operations
Centre. Using CableCAD software, I was
responsible for the creation of all Digital Right of
Ways for the planning departments. I would also
asses and perform quality control on proposed
construction on and/or near Bell Canada’s
interests. |
| | | | Other Information | While employed as a GIS Technician with
Teranet, I have become proficient with both
Geomedia and Microstation (Oracle Spatial
RDBMS). My core function was to complete
updates on the property assessment cadastral
database using digital files, hardcopy survey
plans and UTM coordinate input as source
data. My other daily tasks involved using
spatial analysis & batch queries to identify
errors or anomalies in the RDBMS for
immediate update and to maintain integrity of
database. The position also required oral and
written communication with our stakeholders
(MNR, MPAC) and throughout my employment
I was a leader to my team in both quantity and
quality of work. Also during my time at
Teranet I sat on numerous committees and
was assigned many special projects.
During my two contracts at AGSI I was
assigned to work on the Elections Ontario –
Election Readiness project. Using ArcGIS we
would analyze, query and maintain the
ownership parcel geometry to identify all
possible voter locations with exact address
mapping. Once RDBMS creation was
completed, I helped to design and create
mapping products that would facilitate the
election process. When I was promoted to
Project Leader my main task was to train and
orient all clients (Returning Officers) on how to
read and use mapping products and my core
duties were to manage workloads for the
onsite team members, incorporate clients
changing needs and report on completion
status of deliverables.
Recently I have completed the Advanced
Digital Geography and GIS Certificate from
Ryerson University which stressed a high level
of statistical analysis, RDBMS
creation/management and programming (C#).
This was coupled with real world working
experiences in project management. I was a
member of a small team that completed an
automation project for land severances in
Hastings County which has now been
implemented by their planning department.
